Original oil pet portraits are available in two sizes; 7"X8" and 16"X18" oil on panel. Portraits are done with only one animal in each painting. The 7"X8" size is priced at $400.00 (plus $50.00 S&H and applicable sales tax). The 16"X18" size is priced at $1000.00 (plus $100.00 S&H and applicable sales tax).Typically these are paintings of dogs or cats, please contact me with questions about other animals. Please look at the gallery of commissioned pet portraits and my other paintings on this website and make sure you are happy with my style and color choices. These are NOT photo realistic representations, but my own intrepretation of your pets personality and spirit.
Some tips on how to take pictures of your pet :
- The object is to have your pet looking at the camera with a lively expression.
- It’s best to work with an assistant to help focus the animal’s attention.
- A squeeky toy is great for getting a dog's attention. A cat toy on a string or “fishpole” works well for cats. Dog or cat treats can also work if your pet is into treats! Set up the shot, have everything ready, then squeek or move the toy and take the picture.
- Pictures are best done outdoors in natural light, in the shade, with a simple background, try to avoid using full flash.
- Take as much of a close-up as you can manage without cropping off any of the animal’s face.
- Remember, what I’d like most is a close-up picture of your pet, eyes open and alert, facing into the camera with a lively expression, in full light but not washed out. Note: If your pet is getting stressed by all of this, it's better to stop and try again later. The most important thing is to Keep It Fun!
- Please send me at least 6 different pictures so I can have some to choose from. If you’re using a digital camera you can either email me the photos or send print-outs through the mail. If you’re using film please mail me the prints.
