Vick Freed
NFL star quarterback and notorious dogfighter Michael Vick was released from prison yesterday. Has he been rehabilitated? Should he play football again? If he speaks out against dogfighting will it make a difference? Will the Humane Society's members put up with Michael Vick as a spokesperson? Just a few of the questions out there.
But one thing is certain, the dogs that were rescued from hell at his hands are doing fine! Watch last night's NBC Nightly News story about the dogs rescued by Best Friends Animal Society and others.
It was also very timely that a print exhibition of my Vicktory Dog Paintings opened the last week at Syracuse University. A newspaper reviewer said this about the show. "There’s something about the eyes in these surprisingly affecting, small, square paintings that left person after person at last week's opening saying, “It’s funny but they don’t look vicious. They look gentle.” Read entire review.
The Vicktory Dog Paintings were studies for a larger exhibition titled Pits and Perception. I'm hoping that this work will spark conversation about Pit Bulls and help to change the perception people have of them. They certainly don't deserve what Michael Vick did to them, but they also don't deserve to be feared and hated by the rest of us!
